Welcome to the website of the British Embassy in Ashgabat, the main aim of which is to promote British interests and British values in Turkmenistan.

 

The Embassy is active in many areas. We encourage commercial links between Britain and Turkmenistan, we provide advice to Britons keen to travel to Turkmenistan, and we give information about the United Kingdom to Turkmens interested in doing business with, studying in, visiting or simply learning more about, our country. We carry out a wide range of project activity throughout the country. In the north, we have helped to develop the skills of beekeepers. In the south, we have provided a clean water well in a mountain village, and an anti-narcotics vehicle inspection shed on the Afghan border. We have provided curing equipment for fishing communities on the Caspian coast. These are just a few examples of our work in Turkmenistan that has affected, and improved, the lives of ordinary people.

 

The cultural relationship has been no less active. Working with the Turkmen Red Crescent we sponsored a concert in Ashgabat for World Aids Day on 1 December last year. Our programme has included visits to Turkmenistan by British classical musicians, a festival of modern British films, shown in every regional capital, and a poster competition on 'Britain' among the schools of Ashgabat. I would also would like to highlight the continuing work of British archaeologists from University of London excavating at Merv.
